Inside Profile

Inside Profile: Thomas Mitchell

We sat down with Thomas Mitchell, Profile's Client Manager for the company's tech division to discuss his role day-to-day.

Client managers are crucial to our work at Profile. They plan and execute comms strategies, keep our workstreams well-oiled, and ensure our clients are happy.

The work is demanding yet rewarding, and no two days are ever the same, as many of our clients vary wildly.

To give you a better perspective, we spoke with Thomas Mitchell, our client manager for the tech division of the business, to discuss the role and what he enjoys most.

What does your role look like day-to-day?

Thomas Mitchell (TM): As the Client Manager for our Tech unit at Profile, I'm responsible for managing all communication with the client.

I keep them updated, respond to questions and feedback, and provide strategic advice.

I also manage our unit's client work across PR, social media, and multimedia, ensuring it aligns with the client's strategic objectives and is executed to a high quality while supporting the team throughout.

Now and then, I like to get stuck in with the content we produce for clients too, whether writing an article or helping to coordinate social media posts.

What does the ideal client look like?

TM: There is no ideal client.

We work with a huge variety of people with different styles, objectives, and industries, and that's one of the most interesting parts of working at Profile.

But a client who's engaged with our work, passionate about what they do, and willing to put their head above the parapet is the most enjoyable to work with.

It usually produces the best results too, with journalists and audiences across social media being more likely to engage with someone who is not only an expert but genuine too.

How have you found working overseas with clients?

TM: Travelling overseas is a great perk of working at Profile.

These trips are always very productive, and they're a great opportunity to build a relationship with the client face-to-face while exploring a new city.

In two short years, I've been lucky enough to travel to meet clients in Dubai, Zurich, and D.C. Hopefully, there will be many more trips to come.

But whether you're flying out to meet them or not, working with global clients is highly rewarding. It's an opportunity to learn about different markets and industries and what drives them.

What's a body of work you're proud of?

TM: Launching a new website for a client is always a proud moment since it's often the lynchpin for our subsequent work.

We recently set up a new site alongside a website design agency for a client's family office.

It was a great opportunity to harness all of the media coverage and multimedia content we've produced for the client in one place, enhancing the credibility of the client and their family office with their stakeholders.

Lastly, what do you enjoy most about working for Profile?

TM: The variety of the work and the clients at Profile are probably the things I enjoy most. There's never a boring day on the job.

For instance, I can be working on a press release about an ESG topic, a LinkedIn post about a company acquisition, a video of a client discussing the launch of their company's new AI platform, and a political panel event, all in one day.

It can be tough juggling these responsibilities. But it always keeps you engaged and motivated to deliver for our clients.
