From the newsletter: Electoral lessons.

In a year of global elections, on-the-fly video content will sway election results, argues Jordan Greenaway.

As a rule, it’s a bad idea for executives to learn from politicians. I wouldn’t follow politicians’ financial advice, heed their HR savvy, or trust their tech insights.

But, maybe, just maybe, we can pick up tips on exec profiling from politicians?

So, in a bumper year for elections – in the US, UK, India, South Africa, and now France – what can we learn?

In my view, it all comes down to tech.

Politicians have always been good at picking up new comms & PR tech before business, whether it’s TV (1960s Presidential election), social media (2010 UK General Election), or targeted ads (Brexit).

With that in mind, what tech will dominate election campaigns this year?

It’s not AI, deepfakes, VR, or the metaverse. Instead, I think it’s something much simpler: videos.

I predict that 2024 will be the first year where on-the-fly, quick, immediate, 24/7 video content will sway election results.

Producing regular, consistent content has never been so easy.

Whereas 3 years ago, political campaigns on social media were dominated by graphics. It is now all video content.

That’s why I’m particularly pleased to see my colleague, Isaac Raymond, write about producing effective thought leadership video content. Do give it a read.

This is an extract from one of Profile's recent email newsletters. Packed full of practical lessons, the once-a-month email provides guidance on running successful thought leadership campaigns.
